Awesome things in my backyard!

October 16th, 2010

I’m lucky enough to live about five minutes drive from one of The Art Department PODS. I’m also lucky in the fact they have an open figure drawing session more or less every Thursday night. This is awesome for so many reasons. Not the least of which being I can get a little peek into the energy and creativity coming out of this program. These guys have the goods, and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit envious that they are in a position to work together in such an immersive environment. These guys are all rock stars, you should check them out… Here’s a link.
Anyway I’m glad to be able to say not only are they all incredibly talented, they are all really friendly and generously helpful folks as well. Each one of them has already caused my brain to spin in a million new directions.

Anyway when I found out about the Open sessions I pretty much knew I needed to become a regular face there. If for no reason than I hadn’t done live figure drawing in YEARS. I’m still pretty rusty and my drawings coming out of the sessions are fairly rough and ready. The last session (10/7/10 or 7th of October for those that do the dates the other way) I decided to experiment with Nupastels. Not exactly an earth shattering thing for most. But I’d never used them before. It’s a completely different part of the brain working like this. The chalk is big and clunky and makes a mess, but it’s a lot of fun… Now just to get competent at it!

I think these were 15 minute poses from the last session.
