I did some Marvel themed sketch cards recently. These were pretty fun to knock out.
Sketch done entirely in Manga Studio EX4.
As has been the case for quite a while there really isn’t any of my *real* work I can show off just yet. BUT I have used some down time to start learning Manga Studio. It appears to be quite a robust digital tool. With some of the most intuitive inking tools I’ve seen.
Looking forward to learning/showing more than this super rough head shot.
If you’ve never read the Goon by Eric Powell before, you should do yourself a favor and change that. Why this isn’t a top ten book in the comic industry is an absolute mystery.
I drew this as kind of a blow off sketch after doing the last of the designs of a series of characters for an animation I’m working on. Considering the timelines we’re working on for this, character designing for me is more about getting the ideas out quickly than it is really concentrating on drawing. So these sporadic character portraits kind of helped me keep my sanity a little.
Plus from time to time it’s fun to play with someone else’s toys.
Did I mention go read The Goon? Because you should.
I took a bunch of pictures recently of the process I use to stain paper. Because of that, I have a bunch of stained paper laying about. This was a pretty small cut off piece from a larger page. The entire surface measures about 4″ x 4″. Which is perfect for me to do quick warm ups on.
ETA: Of course I forgot to plug this one. On the off chance you don’t recognize the character it’s Abe Sapien from Hellboy created by a much more talented man than I am Mike Mignola. You really should buy almost anything with his name on it.
Summer officially ends today. We just sent the son off for his first day of 2nd Grade. He’s excited and just made a new friend at the bus stop. Here’s hoping for another good year for him.
With things getting back to some semblance of order I’ll hopefully be able to get back to my recently neglected blog. Nearly a month between posts is bad news!
In the time since my last post I’ve been hard at work on scripting and pre-production for an ongoing series of animation shorts. So as is the case with these things it’s all stuff I can’t show off just yet. I have scanned a couple warm up drawings I’ve done to hopefully help add some content back to the site.
Fingers crossed.
